An Allegory of Hope

This work germinated as an exploration of bold compositional thinking, a play between positive and negative shapes.

At first I thought in terms of the figure floating in empty space. But the more I thought about it, the more I was drawn to the concept of depicting that space as intangibility rather than emptiness. Hence the shape of a platform or surface clearly drawn in negative space: you can't see it, but you can't deny that it's there.

This finally lead me to the title "An Allegory of Hope": hope is invisible but always present, all but indestructible, bringing always some measure of peace.
