Gathering Thunder

"Gathering Thunder" is one of those paintings which took a great deal of thought. I was inspired by the stormy light, by the setting, by the way the stripes of the scarf twisted and flowed in the wind. I wanted to capture the charge of a pre-storm atmosphere on the Moors. But at the centre of it all, more powerful than the storm, is the energy and intensity of the model's gaze. The whole picture orbits this emotional core.
