Anja in Miniature

This painting is a miniature: on a canvas the size of a paperback, the figure's face is about the size of a £2 coin. The pose and costume are a spin-off from a large commission which required me to invent several Grecian characters. The story inspiring this pose is that of a statue come to life and escaped from its pedestal. I was inspired by the vulnerability the model showed in what I had envisaged as her moment of triumph: having escaped from the pedestal, she seems unsure of where to go.
