Compassion

“Compassion” is an allegorical painting – I wanted to explore the important subject of compassion with sincerity and depth through the image of a woman helping an injured swan.

I chose swans because they are a beautiful compositional shape, because they mate for life, and because they are known for their vicious defensive streak. This all helped me build a story which explores the tenderness and the bravery, the risks and the consequences (both positive and negative), of acting with compassion.
